FEI Prohibited Substances Update
The FEI is adding Devil’s Claw (Harpagoside) to their prohibited substance database as a controlled medication as of the 1st January 2016:
Changes to the FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List, to be effective 1 January 2016
Currently it has not yet been added to the BEF prohibited substance database that covers national BD, BE and BS events but it is likely to be added shortly as the BEF list is usually in line with FEI rules. We would like to reassure everyone that all Nettex supplements do not contain Devil’s Claw (Harpagoside) or any other substances prohibited under FEI or BHA rules.
Nettex Vet Dr Becky Lees advises: “Many supplements contain Devil’s Claw so it is important that riders check the ingredients of their regular feeds and supplements to ensure that they do not contain Harpagoside. There is also a very real concern that where companies are manufacturing supplements that contain Devil’s Claw there is the potential for cross-contamination of other supplements if strict protocols are not followed, which could lead to a positive dope test. At Nettex we do not produce any supplements containing Devil’s Claw and we have extremely strict manufacturing protocols so riders can be confident that they can trust Nettex.”
